That sounds like fun! We always travel so heavy (car camping), that I think the biggest challenge will be paring down our packs. "No, son, I don't really think you need your Kindle or six bottles of tea."

Hi!! I'm new here and to hammock camping, too, not too far from Cinncy. My DH works a weird shift so I've thought about doing solo-parent camping with my three... Afterat least one trip with DH. We just ordered gear today, so excited to get started!! Hoping to camp later this month.

    Hi Skylara,

Welcome to the forums from sunny Toronto!

Lots of great people here. Like Gunner said, you might want to consider keeping your eyes open for a group hang in your area. It's a fantastic way to meet fellow hammockers!

Welcome from the mountains of NC. I go camping with my son every chance I get. He's in the Boy Scouts and camp with them but we go by ourselves too and I enjoy when it's just us better. So I know you will enjoy camping with your son and you two will make a lot of memories as you both learn about camping.

Welcome to the elevated life from that SouthEast region you mentioned.

If you want to combine the car camping, traveling, learning, hammocking, short trail, get the 11yo hiking, SouthEast region, meeting new people group camping all in one shot...think about coming down to the biggest group hang in the world. HHangCon 2017 in January.

You have time to consider your travel plans. It also makes a wonderful vacation. You can meet hangers from half the country and most of the awesome vendors that make our gear.

I also have 2 teens and a daughter a few Months younger than yours. We bring our dog and so do many others. Plenty of kids to help walk them.

Also, watch all Shug videos to help you with the learning curve. Plenty of other forum members as well that make great vids to enjoy.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

    Welcome Sky!

x2 on watching Shug's videos. Think "professional clown goes hammock camping." A great guy with a wealth of experience, but a real hoot to watch. He's very kid-safe... You and your son should watch together and get inspired.

Thanks for all of the info! And Shug is what brought me here. I got a hammock, thought "I really need to learn more about this thing," searched YouTube... and then fell down the Shug rabbithole for HOURS. He's great!

He's always wanted to do more camping, but I truly despise tents. I hate setting them up. I hate taking them down. I hate the spiders all over them. I hate the muggy heat in them when the sun is up. And then I used a hammock! "Hey, child, LET'S CAMP!" lol I think I'm more excited about my rediscovered love of camping than he is.

Thanks! I have been. I missed out on this weekend's Mammoth Cave hang due to other plans (plus I'm heading down there next weekend), but I have the SE and Midwest regions' hangs forums subscribed to so I can keep an eye out for hangs near me.
