    Salutation from Qc,Canada

    Hi,newbie here,well i am a ground sleeper,most of the time i am using a seekoutside 4 man tipi and a kifaru Paratarp with a small stove but a month ago i got a real slap on the face when i realize than the sun was going down and i was in the middle of the mountain with a weird angle field and a 3 feet melting snow ground,i NEVER found a good spot for the shelter,my friend was making fun of me because it was the first time its happen to me and he have a hammock...i finaly found a 3 sides wood refuge just in time before dark.Now i ordered a DD Travel hammock.Hope to find a lot of tips here

    Welcome to the forums from Toronto!

    You're lucky you found a spot. This winter another chap used a tipi during some winter camping and they got several days of freezing rain. In the end his tipi was frozen to the ground and he wasn't able to remove it without destroying it. Had he not been leaving that day, he would have been in serious trouble. More and more, hammocks seem the best all weather solution.

    Yeah,it happen one time,did broke some stakes but i just boiled some water on my kifaru stove and put it around the perimeter of my tipi and voilà!😉

    I will do a hammock set-up with a stove for sure,i just love stoves.
