Just ordered a new warm weather set

I have been "making do" with my HG 20 deg quilt set for a couple years now. I don't do a lot of summer camping so for the most part my 20 deg quilts are usable. I decided I wanted to get a 40 deg set to be more temp appropriate as well as shave off some size and weight. I went with a 40deg incubator that is Titanium 67 outer and the new Moroccan Blue 67 inner. I think it is going to look awesome. I also decided to give a 3/4 quilt a try for this set. I got a 40 deg phoenix that is multicam and black. For good measure I also added a pillow to the mix. I am super stoked for it to appear on my doorstep in the coming weeks. I'll post pictures once it all arrives!

You will love the 40degree setup. I have an HG 40 burrow and incubator. They have been used down to 38degrees. I wore only a base layer during that time. I did however bring along two hand warmers. If you are nervous about getting cold, just put one warmer down by your feet and the other close to your chest. It is a simple and light way to extend the temp range of your quilts on those rare really cold nights.

    Cheers!

I sleep pretty warm so these quilts should end up being what I use from early spring to late fall. I am a little concerned about the 3/4 underquilt. I am hoping my feet don't get cold. Worst case scenario is I sell it for a small loss and it was worth the money to figure out if it is the right solution for me or not.

My experience with shorter vs full length underquilts is that in warmer weather like you describe, the shorter one will be fine. If you put a small sleep pad or some clothes in the footbox of your quilt, your feet should be warm enough. If it is over 50 degrees, I doubt you will feel the need to use anything down there.

I had the same feelings when I ordered my short versions of 40 degree burrow and incubator recently. I sleep cold so I added 2oz overstuff in each, making them 30 degree quilts. kind of overkill for summer quilts, but i love the set!

I really need something for temps warmer than my 20 degree burrow/incubator set is good for. I like camping around freezing temps and I'm fine there with what I have, but I live in Texas. In Texas it's usually hot and I can do with no quilts, but there's always that temp when I want something, but not much. I've thought about a 40 degree burrow/phoenix but that almost seems to hot. Anybody ever asked for a 50 degree phoenix?

    In my experience, a 3/4 UQ is fine down to about 30* F, with no pad necessary. I have both a 40* and 20* Phoenix/Burrow, and a 0* Incubator/Burrow. I like a 10* cushion, so if it's going to be below 30* F, I usually use my 0* quilts.

If it's going to be 10* F or below, I usually stack my quilts.

I just ordered the Phoenix 40 in woodland/black as well. I also have the incubator and burrow 20s. I have the same concerns with the length. But, everything I've read on this thread puts me a little more at ease. I'm going to hold off on the top quilt until I try some other options, such as a 50 degree sleeping bag. But, I will most likely end up with another Burrow at some point. I love these quilts.

I think my next purchase will be a 0* set. I would love a summer set to lighten my load over the 20* 3/4 UQ and DIY TQ I use now. But I'm starting an outdoor adventure course in northern Ontario soon and I'm going to have to winter camp. And I REALLY don't want to go to ground for it

I use my 20 UQ and 40 TQ combo when it's warmer. Warmer for me is 45-50° at night. Anything above that and I probably won't be out. If I ever did this crazy summer stuff, I'd be using a 40/40 set for sure (3/4 length). Got a few mosquito bites just working in my garage last night, so the war has begun!
