    Dutch Winter Sock Works!!

On a recent trip to Cloudland Canyon State Park, Georgia, I left my daughter and grandson's hammock gear at home by mistake, but was able to pull together enough of my gear to provide them with hammocks and quilts. I used a PLUQ with a sheet of reflex between layers of the poncho and a 40 degree sleeping bag. The temperature dropped to the mid-forties on the first night and I was uncomfortable. On the second and third nights I added a Dutch Winter Sock to my set up and with the temperature approaching the high thirties I slept warm and toasty. Love the sock.

I haven't went out without my sock sense I got it
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...

Just ordered a summer sock because I live in Texas. More than likely, I'll order a winter sock when the weather starts to turn. Anyone with a Winter Sock care to comment on how well they do in the summer? Does it become a completely uncomfortable steam-box? I chose the summer sock over the fronkey because I wanted the bottom protection and ability to rotate the sock for one-sided wind breaking.

I would imagine the winter sock would get quite toasty in a Taxes summer, they are definitely designed for less air flow and to retain heat. But it should work great out here on the north west coast as a substitute for a tarp during our rather mild summers when expecting nothing more then a heavy fog in the morning. I've seen about a 10-15 degree temp diff in my sock so any thing over 60 or so would start to get hot.

The sock is just made of argon, right? Does it just cut wind?

It is made of argon and cuts the wind great. If you shut the screen up a little by bunching it towards the head or by spinning the sock it also helps to trap body heat and will boost the inside the sock temp about 10 degrees. Closing it too much will cause condensation.
