Which 'biners to use with straps/cinch buckles?

I bought a hammock from a HF member and it came with straps and cinch buckles... I would like to get a couple carabiners so I can run it around the tree and clip it back on itself and not have to totally undo the straps from the hammock each time.

    So...

1: will there be any damage to the trees doing it that way? I am pretty sure I have seen pics of others using that setup...

2: anything specific I need to look for in a 'biner? Size? Shape?

I am still working on the lingo so hopefully my question makes sense...

(and of course, I even get the buckles wrong... they are cinch buckles, not Dutch buckles)

Looking at Dutch's site I did just see the Dutch clips, but not sure about the open end... that makes me a little nervous :P I like the idea of it being closed so there's less chance of a simple mistake like the webbing slipping out and me not notice.

Your mistake is in the right family of products.

Specifically made for just what you're looking for.

Edit... Just saw your addendum post. I've never used the Dutch Clips myself so I'll let others talk about their reliability. Good luck!

+1 on Dutch clips. I have the regular ones, but JRB has the old school flavor.

Dutch cilps work well, I wouldn't worry about the strap slipping. Just make sure the whole strap is hooked when you set up.

A light carabiner option would be the CAMP Nano 22 (22 grams) or the Edelrid Nineteen G (19 grams). Both are full strength carabiners rated for climbing, and will more than hold you. Bit cheaper than dutch clips, but heavier by a large margin.

I have 2 pairs of Dutch clips that have sat in a drawer for several years.. I prefer biners, find them easier to attach and they're way over powered so I don't have to worry about getting one more part of my set up right (bent one of older aluminum Dutch clips) and they still weigh less than an ounce. I use these : https://www.rei.com/product/887383/m...i-ii-carabiner

I haven't made it to hiking yet, so weight isn't really a huge issue. Size is a tiny bit, but mainly because I want to make sure it all still fits in the same stuff sack... I should have enough wiggle room for either option though, and if nothing else I can just clip the biners onto the bag pull itself.
