WBB XLC Shelf "and" Porch tarp?

This is probably so simple I will be again humbled :-)
I just set it up first time out. I DID stay dry and warm through the 30 something degree night of gusts, wind, and rain although and my tent partner did NOT!

BUT.. I attempted the Porch set up, until night, then down and three doors down (Superfly). I could not get the shelf tie out "up" as recommended with the tarp. I just went for it anyway, I did notice that shelf really does need to be tied out in an upward direction although. What am I not seeing? It was a great outing though, and thanx to these forums, and such to get me this far!

The tarp is always in the way of the shelf when the tarp is deployed downward. I usually just let it hang down. Still holds stuff.

AH... It was not just me huh! So unless when I do the "porch", and I angle the roof section up.... and go parallel with the shelf tie outs, thats the way it is... I'm ok with that just figured I didn't see something obvious! Thanx TF.... Dan

I've never had any interference with my shelf. Could you have the tarp angle too steep or the tarp set too low?

Not the best pict but the tarp is in storm mode with the shelf bungy deployed.

I never use the tie outs on any of my hammocks and not having the BB shelf tied out does not get in my way

I only used head side tie out, just to keep netting off face. Shelf works fine in "basket mode"

Hang the tarp higher and/or pitch it less steep. Additionally, the shelf doesn't need to be staked out near horizontally. Mine is usually facing downward to keep the stuff in but away from me. Even with my old Superfly (which is a couple of inches wider than the current version) I have never had problems with my BB shelf.

I put my tarp tie outs(two separate lines about 12') at the same level of the webbing. Was thinking of the tree at the time. They were ON the webbing instead of the bark. I bet somehow the tarp ridge line could have been higher too. It actually was almost ON the screen at night. Since it was storming and cold, it was ok but sounds like I definitely need to raise the tarp and be aware of it next time. I wish next time was tomorrow already!!!

It's not really designed to be a "flat" shelf... more of a wide mouth pocket. Still super useful and I wouldn't give mine up. I find it more useful than the ridgeline by a long shot. I throw my pillow, flashlight, disposable
water bottle, folding knife, cheap flip-flops (late night pee breaks are so much easier as a result) and a snack bar in it every night. It's my little overnight survival pouch.

    This is my method too.
Shelf holds whatever I need while hanging down, tie out not in the least bit needed for it.
