Question Robic 1.0 XL or Hexon 1.6 Wide????

    Hi guys,

I haven't try any of those fabrics. I want a wide hammock so that's why I've narrowed my search to these two fabrics.

Has someone tried both fabrics and can give me his comments?

My actual hammock is a PlolyD Dutch hammock.

For cosmetic purpose, I also wanted to know which of the two fabrics is closer to the Amsteel color blue (Robic Vader Blue or Hexon Brilliant blue)?

    Thanks for your input

You might also consider 1.6 oz HyperD XL.

The Hexon has a "softer" feel and is among my favorite hammock fabrics. I was also going to recommend the 1.6 HyperD XL, which I very slightly prefer over Hexon 1.6, but I see that color is a factor.

The Hexon line feels superior to PolyD and I have no doubts that it is a very strong and quality fabric.

The Robic 1.0 fabric doesn't have near as soft or supple of a hand feel as the Hexon, but it does seem to be a very sturdy and firm fabric. It feels very different than a typical 1.0 nylon ripstop and I don't doubt that it is much stronger.

Depending on your timeframe, Dutch is also supposed to release a Hexon 1.0 Wide. No dates have been set to my knowledge, but just to give another option if shaving a few grams from the hammock is important.

I can't help much with the color matching unfortunately.

I just made a 1.0 robic to compare to my 1.6 hexon. There is a big difference in the amount of stretch. To hex on is nice and stiff which I favor. To robic has much more stretch, more so than the 1.6 hyperD. I would like to see a 1.6 robic if is ever to come out to compare that to the hexon. Currently my favorite is the 1.6 Hexon.

I have a question about these 2 fabrics that is slightly different (not color related).

going to make a new DIY hammock and considering either the Robic 1.0, HyperD 1.6 and the Hexon 1.6.

great to hear your thoughts for a first time DIY before I place an order

I've had no problems sewing any of these fabrics. The HyperD is a bit slicker Than the other two but not enough to be difficult to sew. The Robic and Hexon did hold a crease better. Helpful when sewing a hem.

I have no experience with Robic, but I have made 3 hyperD 1.6's and 1 hexon 1.6, 1 hexon W1.6. I agree with Yojimbo's post above. I find that the hand of hyperD is a bit softer. I also find that hyperD gives me ever so slightly greater lumbar support, although that difference may actually only exist in my mind. I would not hesitate to use either of these fabrics again in the future.

One other observation is the way the vendors cut the fabric. Dutch's cuts appear to be made with a hot knife and is pretty darned square, just a bit longer length than ordered. RBTR cuts are rougher possibly with sissors(?) and not heat sealed so the threads tend to easily ravel (unravel?). May be sort of squared or not even close. However, the fabric is about a foot+ longer than ordered to compensate. The extra fabric has come in handy for making other small items, like ridgeline organizers or stuff sacks etc. I would not hesitate to order from either vendor.
