I had the same question when I got my new hammock. I think it was Dutch that answered the question that someone posted that I found. Anyway, if you larkshead the the whole gathered end, it is stronger. If you want a cleaner look, pass a CL through the channels. Also he said he's never had one rip out. So I took that as do as you like.

this method really complicates things for the setup the OP has. He has a hammock that has a triple-sewn channel. OP simply needs to larkshead a continuous loop of amsteel to his sewn channel to be ready to hang. Why would you need to whip the ends of the hammock as shown in the video when you have a triple-sewn channel?

Did you know that Dutch's hammocks already come with a cable tie in the channel, just like in the video?

I maybe should have been more clear, but I use continuous loops in lieu of UCRs, and I don't stitch anything.

Triple stitched channel or not, this method puts zero strain on the stitching. To each their own man. All I said was "This is my favorite method" and shared the video. I didn't say "This is the only way it should be done, do this exactly".

This site is about sharing ideas and helping each other. In the end though, HYOH. There are many ways to accomplish the same thing, the method I shared was just one of those ways.

    Carry on my wayward son.

NO-larks head continuous loop or whoopie/UCR directly to hammock just under the gathered knot.
I don't trust my life to 2 or 3 runs of stitching no matter how good they are

Yes, I've purchased a dutch hammock without suspension and am familiar with the way he ships them. I wasn't trying to say the idea in your linked video wasn't a good one. It is. I just wanted to emphasize that with a triple-sewn channel none of that is necessary.
