OMG!! AHE Bushman Chair is amazing!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my full size hammock...

But I just took delivery of a Bushman Chair and as soon as the sun broke through the clouds (it's rained seven straight days in the NE) I hung my BC between my two favorite trees in my yard and laid back for a snooze. I know it's Mother Day and all, but I couldn't resist.

I opted for just the BC body, no suspension, because I have more than enough backup bits to build a suspension. Threw together two CL's with standard alu Loopaliens, and used my regular suspension (Kevlar straps to amsteel leader) and it came together like a dream... Literally.

Service and shipping from AHE was equally amazing! This might be my favorite gear purchase to date !!!

I have used mine as a chair a few times, but have mostly been using it as a gear hammock suspended from the ridgeline of the hammock. Super convenient. I picked mine up last year sometime on a whim when it was on sale. So glad I did. Love it.

Sounds like you love yours, too. What a great feeling to have a piece of gear that is so simple, but makes you so happy, eh? AHE makes nice, affordable stuff. Really dig it.

So, you how do you set it up as a gear hammock?

I put two klemheists on the ridgeline using an 8-10" piece of cord and use them to position it. Same principle as a ridgeline organizer. You can use a knot of your choice to attach the ends of the klemheist to the continuous loops of the bushman chair.

My mom using mine a couple days ago on the AT.

That's what I figured it would look like.. functional, but might be too claustrophobic for me!! LOL!

It's a little roomier than it looks. That's a wide UQ (50"), so the edges come up a bit higher than a standard width UQ would. Plus, I couldn't talk her out of packing a lot of things (her first backpacking trip) so that bushman chair/gear hammock is probably holding 40lbs, including my Atmos 50L pack. Also, she insisted on having it suspended in the center of the ridgeline, as opposed to all the way to the foot end, which is how I prefer it. More headroom getting in and out of the hammock.

I get what you're saying though. It's probably not for everyone. I didn't think it was for me until I tried it. I will be making a few from some spare fabric I have because I want to put them in a few of my hammocks and leave them.

    That was verbose. Sorry.

Bushman chair is my favorite gear as well. I like to use it for relaxation. During hunting time I also like to keep it with me.
