Greeting All,
Has anyone been planing a MO HF hang for 2016? If not may I suggest something around the first weekend of November (5th and 6th). I was thinking perhaps Hawn State Park and the trail there. I've not been there but understand it's very scenic. If anyone would be interested in a group hang I thought I'd throw this out early to give plenty of time for planning. Perhaps there is a better location or if someone has experience on that trail please chime in and we can get the ball rolling. Some of us did Bell Mountain last February and it was nice too. By November it should be cooling back down and maybe the bugs and ticks will have subsided. I'm open for ideas.

I would be interested in this, sounds like a good idea! I agree, early November would be a fine time to do this. Hawn is a nice park, but there is one thing that may be worth checking. Last time I overnighted Hawn, which was a couple years ago, there was a policy against campfires. That may have been a seasonal thing, I do remember there was a controlled burn at the same time. Sure, campfires aren't a true necessity but they are certainly enjoyable, especially in November. A quick call to the DNR could sort that out, just something to consider.
Of course, Bell Mountain is always nice as long as everyone is down for a hike. Personally, that would suit me just fine, but if making it more of a "car camp" setting would increase participation, that might be a conversation worth having. However it shapes up, I like the concept. Hopefully we can get a good group together

I'm definitely interested in doing a hang in the area. I don't really have the insulation for a November hang, but we'll see what happens by then. I'm free most weekends this summer if anyone wants to do something smaller.

I would love to attend a group hang in November. I don't have any experience with Hawn but that time of year in Missouri is nice camping.

Absolutely! I've not been to Hawn yet, but have it on the list. Bell is amazing, but I'm not certain there are a lot of great big group spots up there... at least not.in the great spots with the INCREDIBLE views.

That weekend would work for me. It's a good time of year to hike there. I've been hiking/camping at Hawn extensively for the past 15 years. Regarding the fires, you're supposed to only make them at the established primitive camps. There are a couple that are really nice and having a fire won't be a problem. Since it can be a popular place, it's not a bad idea for one person to hike in early to kind of "reserve" the one site I'm thinking about. It's on the whispering pines trail, right by water and it's a relatively short hike into it. I'd definitely be up for this and will mark it on the calender!! Haven't seen anything for Missouri in a very long time! But then again, I haven't exactly stepped up to the plate and posted anything either!

Sounds like fun. If it was the next weekend I'd be there. I have my kids on the 5th & 6th. I don't have enough good hammock insulation for the kids to go with me. I understand though, it's impossible to work around everyone's schedule.
