It's not the best method, it's also not simple and it costs you a lot of time when u use a bobbin for the top thread too. My top thread is about 2000m long and I consider the big industrial Gütermann kingspools as the by far cheapest and easiest solution.
With a little training and experience you know when it's time to look at the bobbin thread. Best and easiest method:
- Start longer sewing projects (where you want your bobbin thread unbrocken) always with a full bobbin.
- In all other cases don't bother if the bobbin threads runs out. Make proper lock stitches, rewind the bobbin and sew the rest of your stitch lines.
- Buy at least two or three bobbins. I have much more but don't need more than five for three different threads.
