    Dented titanium toggles!

I went for an overnight hammock trip. It's the third time I've used my hammock and the second time hanging with Kevlar straps and titanium toggles now the toggle is dented. I'm pretty sure I had the angle correct on the hang. I was definitely on the knot.

No before I complained, I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong.

Is it possible you were hanging off of the toggle itself instead of the knot? I broke a stick toggle that way before I learned the difference.

Despite the renown strength of titanium, it is much more malleable than one often realizes. It can be bent back and forth, especially when it is in thinner pieces, but is extremely hard to break. A dent like this could have been caused from something else and "may" not have been caused by your hanging. A heavy object placed or dropped on it...who knows.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from "complaining", but I wouldn't be concerned about the toggle holding up with time just because of the dent pictured.

A little deformity in your toggle is important for developing an authentic and stylish patina on your hammocking gear. You will spot the experienced hammocker in the woods not only by the evidence of enjoyment on their toggles but, perhaps also by the CF tape repair on their CF Tarp or mis-matched colored thread stitching together another overly enjoyed piece of equipment. Boots with soles just a bit melted by campfire ect.

While it is nice of Dutch to send you a new toggle, consider continuing to use the dented one with pride.

    This^^^^^

I'm always a little embarrassed by how good all my gear looks. I take care of my stuff so it lasts a long time. But man do I earn each scar and want anyone else who notices to know it.

I thought about cleaning my backpack, once... then I figured it earned it's sweat stains and pine sap, etc. I decided if it doesn't stink, it's clean enough for the trail. Titanium is tough, but as said before, fairly malleable. It'll survive. It may have been user error, may have been something else. It'll still function. Chick's dig scars, dude.
