I see. I just don't like bug nets. I find they seem to contradict what I am looking for in my hammock.

I'm mostly looking to not sleep on the ground or be bothered by bugs, so permethrin is my friend!

I treat my hammock and integrated bugnet. In most asym hammocks parts of your body will be close to the mesh at night so mosquitoes will try to bite through it. I also find it cuts down on how close they get to my head and reduces the ear buzzing/flyby biz. I also have a single layer hammock which allows them to try to bite from below if left untreated.
The main reason for treating my socks/clothes is for ticks while hiking, but I do find it reduces the amount of bug spray I needed to apply.
I think what I will do is get one of my less favorite hammocks and treat it. If it works and keeps me pest free, then I'll do the others. If it tends to show adverse affects toward me or doesn't work, then I can just pull that one wash it until the treatment is gone.
As Twistytee said, the permethrin will keep the skeeters AWAY from your netting. That’s less buzz in the ear, less chance of bite-through of your the net ends up next to your face/arms, and less chance that the critters will look for a way in when you unzip to enter/exit. So it’s not so much that they can’t reach you is they also don’t even want to get near you.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
On the screen as well as the main body. Buzzing 10 inches from your face all night is not fun. Ha.
I didn't read through this post but wanted to mention, in case it has not been brought up, that if you used permethrin and have cats at home - you may kill your pets. The stuff even in low amounts is highly toxic to cats.
Only when liquid. Once dry, there is no problem with cats. I have cats and all my summer clothes get doused in permethrin, and both the cats and I are happy once the clothes dry.
