From I-40 to Max Patch is around 14 miles so we hiked in to a great campsite Thursday afternoon about 3 miles in and camped out and then on to Max Patch the next day. You will absolutely want to stay at Max Patch to see the sunset and sunrise, it's something you will never forget. We were planning to go on to Hot Springs and finish on Sunday but some bad storms were moving in and my brother had drove up to camp with us Friday night so we decided to ride out with him and have a great breakfast in Hot Springs. We are going back later to finish that section up. It was a great trip.

10-4. I believe Max Patch to Hot Springs is about 12 miles,so that is a great 2-3 day excursion. I've day hiked Lemon Gap to Max Patch, and I've been on the Summit with 6 inches of snow! Talk about awesome.
We were there a few weeks ago and there were 6 or 7 sets of thru hikers camping on the summit. I have to do that!
I just love that whole area and was thinking of doing MP to HS, but now I'm going to do Big Creek to HS and just get a shuttle from HS. Thanks for the info!
An awesome trip! Max Patch is everything you said it was and more!
