I have bought a tarp the old man winter from Marty at outdoor wilderness Logics. I had him sew on dutches D rings on all the tie outs. Also He sewed in pockets for an inner pole mod, later if I want to buy or make one. and finally I had him install 1/4" velcro to only one side of the tarp doors. This way I could secure one side and dual stake the Velcro sided doors, the ones I won't use to leave or enter. So it won't be loud. On the exit side I will do what is described above with the shock cord and mitten hooks. You guys are the best, thanks for helping me out. Peace. I will show some pics when I get it and get it to the woods!!!

I bought an Old Man Winter tarp from OWL and after discussing with Marty, had him put the velcro on one set of doors, and to include spare velcro for the other set of doors for me to attach later if I wanted after trying it out.

Short story, after a couple of outings I sewed the velcro to the other set of doors for cold weather use. Sure, it seems never to line up perfectly, but that doesn't matter in the woods. When it's really cold, I really appreciate doors that close-up tight. And if I lower the tarp to touch the ground, I'm really snug in there!

I know you questioned velcro but I KNOW you want my $. 02.. I added snaps...and like them. Not a lot of added weight, and they don't stick to themselves or other things. I don't actually use them a lot but, just like doors, very handy when I do!

Velcro and the woods do not go together. Leaves ect tend to stick to it.

    No Velcro here either.

I didn't use snaps, but I did add 3 buttons on each side for those really hard wind/rain storms that pop up here.

At night, I just close the doors with my guy lines or only button the side that blocks the high winds.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I sewed Velcro to the doors on both sides of my DIY Winter Dream (pics are on my profile if you want to look). I've never regretted it. I've not had them stick to anything. But, my tarp stays in a sack when not deployed, and I deploy straight from the sack and back into the sack without letting the tarp touch the ground. Also, my doors always line up.
When I sewed the Velcro, I sewed it to the inside of one side and the outside of the other side. Makes it easy to close one set of doors from the inside and one set from the outside.
I really like Velcro doors for the winter camping, when you're trying to eliminate as much moving air as possible.

though not ed-zackery an answer to the OP's application BUTT

on my TEPEE, the manufacturer used an overlapping flap w/ inner & outer ties for weather protection and they work quite well

the guys i camp in TEPEES with have zippers, velcro & ties

zippers & velcro make noise over the simple rustling of the camper

if i'm trying to quietly get up & out to start the fire & put the coffee on, i can do so w/ a minimum of noise, while not disturbing the tiniest of critters going about their morning business

at a glance, you can see who is in or out by the way the ties are tied(bow/knot outside or inside)

makes for a more harmonious/peaceful beginning to the day

    i do like my ties

    simple & quiet
