    Sewing technique question

Hey all, have been enjoying some casual DIY sewing. I should really take some classes… Maybe someone can help me though. When I'm sewing a straight stitch, I feel like even though my stitch is "straight" and bordering the edge of the fabric in a parallel fashion, the fabric is not feeding into the presser foot straight. Notice in the pic, ignoring perspective, the pink lines show that my fabric is feeding in at an angle. The photo is staged to show what I'm talking about, but has anyone experienced this or have any advice? I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

I know what you mean i have had that sometimes but not often.

On some scrap, what happens if you hold it all parallel, sometimes it feels wrong but works straight.

    Also try some cotton fabric

try sewing through 2 3x5 cards, very slowly, and see what happens. If it does the same thing, then your feed dogs are probably not level with the throat plate, causing it to grab one part of the fabric first and pulling it out of square. If it feeds perfect, then it is likely just a quirk of the fabric. You could also try more presser foot pressure to see if that helps in moving the fabric more uniformly.

Note... use an old blunt needle for this because the paper card will burr the needle in no time flat. and don't worry about threading it. You won't need the thread to track the stitch line.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."
