    WI>Lapham Peak Unit, Kettle Moraine State Forest> 11/11 - 11/13

Friday, November 11th (I will arrive around 3pm) until Sunday November 13th (Packer game starts at noon)

$5 charge per person. Limited to 30 people.

We will have potluck dinners for Friday night and Saturday night.

Extra Fun Info: The Kettle Moraine and Lapham Peak were formed 10,000 years Locationago when a glacier covered much of Wisconsin. Lapham Peak's glaciated topography provides excellent hiking, backpacking and cross-country skiing on lighted trails.

There are several miles of hiking trails within the forest. One of the highlights of the forest is the observation tower which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Climb the 45-foot observation tower atop the highest point in Waukesha County (1,233 feet above sea level). Hiking is not allowed on the cross-country ski trails when they are snow-covered. Pets must be on a leash 8 feet or shorter at all times. Abundant bird life and wildlife can be observed from all trails and guided bird hikes are held each spring. There are several prairie restoration sites and a butterfly garden.

Hoping to make this. The trails are nice and the view from the tower is amazing. Been too long since I was there...

I drove to Lapham Peak to check out the backpacking campsite. It's about .6 miles from the parking lot. Took me about 12 minutes to walk down the Ice Age Trail path to the site. I took pictures to help guide you to find the site.

2016-05-08 15.17.10.jpgYou'll see the bathrooms at the tower parking lot.
2016-05-08 15.17.24.jpg And you'll see the Ice Age access Trail sign next to the bathrooms.
2016-05-08 15.18.15.jpg Walk past the grill
2016-05-08 15.19.49.jpg On your right you will see the yellow Ice Age trail sign
2016-05-08 15.26.18.jpg Follow the yellow markers
2016-05-08 15.28.41.jpg Look for this sign and turn left
2016-05-08 15.28.52.jpg Now follow the blue markers
2016-05-08 15.30.19.jpg You'll soon see the Campsite marker
    2016-05-08 15.32.36.jpg And you've arrived at camp
    2016-05-08 15.32.40.jpg Here's our firepit
2016-05-08 15.32.49.jpg And a few places to sit

Watch this short video to better see our camp and scope out your tree spot!

Deposit is paid. The site is ours! And they made a special exception for us for two nights since this is normally only reservable for one night for thru-hikers. They didn't think anyone would be thru hiking the IAT in the middle of November.

We'll see how it works out as it gets a little closer to the date, but I'm putting this one on the calendar for now.
