Been tinkering last couple of days. Was interested in trying some mule tape tied to cont loop on hammock with Beckett hitch. I had some tree straps spare so attached mule tape with an Albright knot, pretty good system. Seems we folk are always experimenting lol. Its good to mix it up I guess

Brilliant idea with the arrow shaft-i think I'll use that.

I hang from whoopie larks headed direct to hammock and tree straps-all homemade.

I have one UCR but I don't like the length required for the bury, whoopie are much shorter.

I use two sizes tree straps: 4 foot and 6 foot, to save weight. UCR is connected to tree strap with a quick hitch. If I undo this I end up with the treestrap in my hand, so I never forget the treestrap. UCR is connected with a soft shackle to the hammock, so I can disconnect the UCR from the hammock if the UCR is wet. No hardware, no problem undoing the whole business, really light. If a treestrap is too short, I pull the UCR throught the eye on the treestrap to lenghten it.

Carolina Red Hammock Suspension as seen on YouTube.
No knots, no hardware, stays assembled so you don't lose your strap or suspension no rummaging through pack with darkness and rain on the way. Well there is one knot that is tied each time--an ordinary slip knot--and due to the way it is used--it does not slip!!! And this suspension is small enough that if it's too wet or dirty to pack in hammock stuff sack--you can put hammock in stuff sack and keeping suspension attached to hammock--but outside stuff sack--just put this small light suspension in a spare sock or small stuff sack of its own.
There is not much to match that sickening feeling after rummaging through your pack three times in darkness and drizzle as you wonder if detached suspension is somewhere in your pack or on a tree somewhere or at home on the floor. Suspensions are getting smaller and lighter and much easier to lose or forget to pack. I always try to make suspensions that stay attached to hammock and or tarp.
So if my suspension is missing I know The Maple King moved it!!

I wasn't aware that UCRs required a longer bury. How long is the bury in the UCR compared to a whoopie bury?

UCR's DO NOT require a longer bury. Every set I've made has the bury length as recommended by Samson for whoopies. 3-1/2 fids, 21xD, which comes out to 8-1/8". NEVER had a problem or a reason to change that length. IIRC, some have used a shorter bury with success.

It's possible whoopies are shorter since there's only one fixed eye with the appropriate bury instead of two with a UCR, I've never measured them. The ease of adjustment, especially with weight in the hammock, gives UCR's the edge in my book.

I had to go 360mm for the UCR by trial and error on my 3mm dyneema,it kept slipping with anything less.

My whoopie I bury 150mm and they work well.

One of the "golden rules" for calculating buries was 72x line width.
    216mm for 3mm line
    144mm for 2mm line

I had the same tendency for slippage in my whoopies by the golden rule, so i made me UCR bury at like 18"...dunno how that calculates to mm offhand.

Are you making the prusik on the end of the short cord, as in this tutorial??https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...To-Make-an-UCR

I've never had one slip making them this way with an 8" bury. No need for 18"........ but what do I know
