Hello again. So I'm thinking about returning my current hammock and getting a larger one. The mayan im looking at is 15ft long and 10ft wide. My stand that i build is about 13.5-14' from hook-hook. Will that hammock be too long for the stand? Thanks

If we were dealing with straight lines and with nobody in the hammock, it would technically be like .866. I'm guessing the .83 has come from much trial and error of what works best for most people most of the time. In real life, it is a good starting point for setting a fixed ridgeline. Adjust from there up or down according to your own comfort.

In the past week or so I've posted my comments on Byer's Ceara hammock stand. I have a (I think) 15' Brazillian. With the arms and "keel" fully extended on my older version of this stand, I still had to knot (I clipped a huge plastic NightIze S biner in there so knot could hopeful be undone, if needed.
I have a non adjustable stand I'm getting ready to sell for the same reason. Butt drags the ground. Shame really.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.
