    Hammock choices with topcovers

    Hello hammock demigods,

First post here. I've been reading up on this site because I'm new and want to move into hammocks. I've read parts of the ultimate hang and watched many of the very helpful videos. I'm a very geography confused Texan living in Canada. I want a top cover for my hammock because of the cold weather. So far I have looked at Clark and WBBB. (Both I like.)

Are those my only choices or are there others I am unfamiliar with? Any advise would be helpful.

    Thanks.

    John

I'm a big fan of the Hennessy Hammock over cover after using it with the Super Shelter bottom insulation system down to a warm and cozy -6C/21F this past weekend. Very light weight and modular with the rest of the HHSS through a range of temps and weather conditions.

Also much more reasonably priced for Canadian residents as Hennessy offers free shipping and you can also get most models at MEC. Unlike Warbonnet and Dream Hammock which have absurd shipping costs for something that's only a few pounds.

While I'd love to one day get a Blackbird, I really can't justify an extra $50 USD for shipping on top of the premium price for the hammock itself. Now if you still have family in Texas who you might be visiting sometime soon, well, that certainly opens up your options.

The most comfortable hammock I own, and one of the most comfortable I've tried. I did own a Hennessy Hammock Explorer UL, the over cover and the super shelter were the best part of the system, the weak point was the hammock that was far too prone to calf ridge.

Dream Hammock is a great option as well, but I've only tested those, I haven't owned one.

Hennessy is a solid choice - and a good family company to deal with. Nice thing is they sell the entire ready to go package - parts fit together like a glove and lots of videos to support.
    Hammock includes suspension and tarp
Super Shelter includes all bottom insulation
Over Cover for $20 (at 3 oz and packs to the size of a baseball) for those cold windy nights

They have a sale going on now:

If you decide you need something heavier/warmer than the HH nylon over cover that they provide - just use it as a pattern and make one out of a fleece blanket.

There are lots of posts on the Super Shelter/Over Cover in the Hennessy Hammock forum located under the 'FORUM' button.
    Here's a recent one:

Someone directed me to look into a sock option. Which was sound advice. I don't have any experience with it yet, but look at them, they look cool!
