To keep this a hammock specific topic, I like to put all my gear in a gear hammock. This keeps everything off the ground and dry. It also keeps away the creepy crawlies in Florida.

The little "hammock" is my gear hammock that hangs next to me.

In bad weather, I just close my tarp and I'm cocooned in dry splendor.
    Gear hammock has green strap.

I put kitchen and food things a ways away in a bear bag. My pack will hang either on one of the suspension trees with a pack cover in place or at the foot of the hammock on the suspension.

Just a word on this thread as we see something similar pop up ever month or so on the forum. Keep it focused on the hammock and not the hunting/weapon end of the discussion. Below is a direct quote from the TOS. If firearms end up being discussed in the thread, it will be removed.

How much extra weight are you carrying to bring along the mini hammock.

'Maybe 6 oz. I haven't weighed it. It's maybe 4'x3' or so(silnylon), 5' straps, 1/4" polypropylene Whoopie Sling and aluminum toggle.

It was made by Life Scout as a hammock chair/gear hammock. It's small enough in it's stuff sack to put in my front pocket. It can also be modified as a pack cover. If you have a pack cover, it can be modified as a gear hammock.

I have enjoyed a couple weekend backcountry hammock hunts in the Chattahoochee National forest over the past month. I use the AT to access some beautiful national forest. If there is a chance of rain I will Hang my pack from some paracord wrapped around one of the trees my hammock straps are attached to and protect it with my rain cover.

Since we're talkin hammocks, the cool seat I am enjoying in the photo is called the hammock seat and only requires one tree. There is a single leg that telescopes down to about 10", and it weighs less than 2lbs. I bought it for ground hunting when I am hunting so far back a tree stand isn't practical, but it doubles as an awesome camp chair for backpacking.

It doesn't change much for me between hunting or hiking. If I fear rain I'll hang my pack from the foot end of the hammock. Otherwise it's likely hung on a tree, either off my tree straps or from a spare amsteel dog bone I always bring. I use an exo mountain 3500 pack for both purposes so not much really changes.

Any other miscellaneous gear can be put in my Ridgeline organizer. I've also been known to sleep with spare clothing scattered about in my hammock. Keeps it handy and warm.
