Within 100 yds. of the fire ring, maybe 50. 200 yds. maybe 100+. There is maybe a 10 acre area across the canal that looks like the view across Gator Hole in the photo. Pine trees and some Oaks with very little underbrush. There is a causeway across the canal so you don't have to wade.

Just found another option for those interested as well. Clearwater Lake in the ONF is another site that seems, from pictures at least,to be very hammock friendly. And it also seems to be less crowded than the bigger springs in the area. Anyone have any experience there?

Try Buck Lake in the same area in Ocala National Forest. Has a well/pitcher pump for water and an a pit outhouse. Several parking areas, Florida Trail and nice hike to Alexander Springs. Very quite! Check with the Ranger Station for fees.

I just spent 2 weekends at Goethe State Forrest.. Tidewater trailhead. I was the only one there both weekends. Plenty of room with bathrooms and some nice trails right from camp and a large pavilion if it rains.

Been to Clear Water Lake at least 5 times. It's my favorite car camping spot. I've never experienced any large crouds. Site 13 is beautiful as its by the lake.

I believe you can hike to Alexander springs and back not sure on the distance. The lake has a small trail loop of about a mile. Pics are of site 13

Keep them coming guys. I have already made plans with Clearwater Lake (thanks for the site suggestion), however I think I have filled up some weekends looking at some of these other sites. After googling Goethe Forest, I discovered it's almost in my back yard. I'll check that one out for sure. Gator Hole is definitely my destination for my next hike and hang.

My group is only about 5 of us, can you do small party camping at Buck Lake? Also, would the boat ramp site at Doe Lake be an option, or do you have to have the group site reserved?

I don't know about Doe Lake, and don't know about reservations at Buck Lake. I've only been there for the old Florida Hangs. Just know there is a limit of 50 people. Call the National Forest office, they'll have all the information.
