    Suspension system for indoor hanging?

    Hey guys.
    Brand new to all this.

I want to try indoor hanging.

I have spent a decent amount of time going through the sticky thread, but I still have some questions.

I'm starting with an Eno DoubleNest.
I was thinking of just getting the Eno Indoor Hanging kit. Would two high weight rated eyelets be just as good?

I am still confused about suspension systems. The eno just comes with caribiners. I have the Eno Slap Straps. Would these work indoors? Or would I need something else like Whoopie Slings? (any other recommendations?)

Is it better to hang the hammock on perpendicular walls or parallel walls?

In some of the threads I see people mentioning a "calculator". What exactly are they talking about?

    Thanks guys!
    Excited to try this out.

I sleep indoors in my hammock every night, unless I am in the woods. I used two eye bolts each into a stud on opposing walls. Have a carabiner attached to each of those. I have used both whoopie slings and straps with cinch buckles with success. I prefer the straps with cinch buckles. Just how I have done it. Hope it helps.

    Suspension system for indoor hanging?

I use the ENO indoor mounts, but you could make a similar system that will be just as good from other hardware. Be very sure you hit the studs!

I made some short WS that I use with most of my hammocks, and I use continuous loops doubled over with my Brazilian hammock.

Houses in Malaysia here are made of bricks or prefab concrete. Does anyone have any advise on the anchor points in concrete?

This is of interest to me too.

Houses in South Africa are also brick and mortar from foundation to top and I've had nightmares about bricks tearing out and administering a healthy dose of concussion...

You could try making a stand for the hammock.

mematt69, I have been looking into this option for some time now. I eventually built a 3-hammock outdoor stand as per Derek Hansen's instructions. Then realised as I was setting it up, my back-yard isn't big enough!

After some more research (Turtledog stands, other tesigrity stands, handy hammock etc...) I came to the conclusion that the best solution for me would probably be the pipe stand (also a-la Derek) so that I can get it out of the way when I need to - especially when I use it indoors. Building one is on my "someday when I'm all growed up" list.

But I'd still be interested in knowing if there is a "best practice" (and, if so, what it is) for attaching eye-bolts or other hardware to hang off of in a brick-and-mortar house.

The walls may be brick but i bet the cellings are made of wood rafters. Always attach it up top and leave your straps hanging down for easy attachment via MSH. Thats what I've done in my garage instead of into the walls.

If floor to ceiling brick and mortar, I would suggest lumber like a 2x4 that is the height of the wall. Bolt in to wall in as many bricks as you feel comfortable with. I would bolt in at least 5 places to spread out the load. This will be your anchor point.

Attach the wall anchor to the 2x4 at the appropriate location. Use the rest of the stud to add decorations as you wish. Just an idea for you.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
