We had a quick outing on the AT in northern Virginia. My son was very happy it was one night, he had to sleep on the ground. I didn't help him pack his bag so he forgot tree straps and rope for his tarp. It was pretty chilly, just they way I like it!

We jumped on at Blackburn trail center, just did a few miles. Yes, tick-less. Maybe it was still too cold. Just a little further south has a LOT more under growth from what I've experienced. Was nice to have nice open spot on the ridge!

Where is that tent platform? There aren't many on the AT in VA. I have not done from Bears Den Trail Center to Harpers Ferry. Saving that for the last.

The platform is was an Eagle Scout project. I wish I had taken a picture of the plaque. This site is about half way from Snickersville Gap, on Route 7, and Keys Gap. I think it's about 7 or 8 miles up and then will be on the right of the ridge. There's signs for the Blackburn Trail Center.

I'm hoping to take a Friday off before it gets too hot and hike from Snickersville Gap to this site for the night and then at Keys gap.
