    Top Quilt Size?

I am making my first top quilt and don't know what size to make it. It will be used for both hammock and ground camping
I am about 6' tall and weigh about 140 lbs. I do toss and turn a lot when I am not in a hammock. What do you more expierenced guys recommend?

Well i am just making one at the moment for ground mainly and hammock i am also 6ft
I wanted it to be wide and long to take up over my head if i need it so in the end i have settled on 2.2m by 1.5m karo step.

My suggestion would be to make it end length about 78" long. You'll have to add extra for your seam allowance as well as loft, the amount of which will vary slightly based on baffle size and your desired temp rating. For ground I would go a minimum of 50" wide, 54" if you can, depending also on how broad your shoulders are. The quilt needs to cover more real estate when you are on the ground. Half taper as shown in Tacblades picture, or no taper if really love to dance up a storm in your sleep. Hope that helps. Good luck and post some pics for us when you are done!

So I've finally decided on half taper 78" long by 55". My only question left is what should I taper down to?

I usually taper off ten inches, but that is just me. Just make sure you don't taper so much that your feet don't fit when you form the footbox.

I have pretty big feet, so maybe down to 48"ish?

78" length should be good for you. For width, try this. Lie on the floor, on your side on top of the sleeping mat you use. Have someone throw a blanket over you and pin it all around, such that 6" of material is touching the floor.

A top quilt for hammocks only can be much more narrow than this.
