national park week, april 16-24, free entrance to national parks

in case you didn't know, it's national park week for the national park system to celebrate their 100 year anniversary, so they're having free entries to all of the national parks from april 16-24. i didn't know until i went to assateague this past weekend, and was surprised to learn that i didn't have to pay to enter.

Wish this applied to wilderness permits for the Smokies! Would be $16 richer...

I wonder how long it'll be before the Feds figure out a legal way to charge fees to enter the Smokies?

You mean by the car like Yosemite or GC? They already charge a backcountry permit fee for camping. Not sure what the legal issue would be.
