Has anyone had experience with using 1/16" shock cord for staking out their tarp and doors? Does it hold up well or is something stronger needed?

The 1/16th doesn't have alot of power behind it. I would at least go 3/32", but I prefer 1/8" stuff on tarp pull outs.
Depends on the weight of the tarp. If the tarp is light weight it will be fine. I attach about 3 feet of Shock cord at the tarp end and attach 6 feet of hutchie cord (bank line) doubled up and Pegged out on each corner. I use available trees to fix cord above head height if I can unless heavy raining then I lower them. I use tarp in rectangle shape over my hammock. The shock cord takes up slack overnight and works great.

Sorry, this photo does not show clearly what I described. But I love the photo of this campsite. Hehehe

I tried the 1/16th shock cord with my first Cuben Fiber tarp when I first started counting the grams.
My experience was that it worked fine when deployed but got tangled up way too easily when taking the tarp down and storing.
In the end I opted for the 1/8" as best for my needs in usability and storage.
