OH>Apr 29th>Mohican> Ohio Late April Hang

A lot of us missed our early hang, so we are heading out the weekend of the 29th to Mohican State park. For those new to Mohican, it's a primitive (no water or latrines) walk in site (roughly a mile, depending on the site) with loads of places for a group hang. As with all of our hangs, new folk are more than welcome to show up and we are pretty good at being family friendly (when needed!). If you can't stay overnight, just stop by for a chat!

The plan is to head for sites 9 or 10. First one to arrive will check in at the sign-in station and leave an "HF" by the site we get so that everyone else knows where we are.

I'm planning on bringing some give away stuff that I've accumulated (small bottles that seem to be good for fuel, freezer packs, etc). If you have some stuff from your spring cleaning, maybe we can make this a mini-swap meet also.

    Basic maps:
    Park Map 1

Park Map 2 This has a different view and some more info on the State Forest Layout

    Trail Map

Caltopo map showing the sign in location, the parking lot and sites 9 and 10. They are not on the trail map, but they are along the mountain bike trail on the northside.

Also at one of our recent hangs, we started discussing trying to set up an annual hang, maybe a "September Jerky Hang" or something similar. Let's kick over the idea and see if there is enough interest. Leave your thoughts here and we can discuss.

    Any questions, just ask!

I went to Mohican last weekend......arrived at the kiosk around 6pm. There were two available sites, my girlfriend and I signed out for site two. We parked and hiked all the way the site, and it was occupied by someone who claimed "they forgot which site they reserved". An obvious lie as it was evident that they didn't want to cross the creek to get over to site 1. Anyways, I should have forced them to vacate, but he was set up with his son. He already had a black eye so I figured it was best to just leave this fool in the woods. Too bad he is teaching his son to be just as irresponsible and inconsiderate as he is. We drove an hour and a half and had to hike out in the dark and drive home. I suppose he probably couldn't care less. </rant> That being said, I love the mohican park and pack sites.... haha. This is just an issue that is really annoying.

    Hello All,
I am keeping an eye on this thread. I am going to try to make this hang. I am not sure if the Dr will allow it though. If nothing else, I will come up for the day.

I am all for an annual hang. A hang while the weather is somewhat nice might intice a couple vendors to show up.

As of today AccuWeather is looking good for this weekend. I am off work Friday and and hope to be ready to leave early, but have no solid plan or goal except to be set up before it gets dark. With the whole day, I might be able to make that happen, lol. Realistically early to mid afternoon Friday is likely for me.

I'm off work at 3:30 on Friday and should be on the road by 4 so arriving around 5:30 (hopefully). I actually dropped a pin where the parking site is so I don't drive around for 2 hours looking for it this time haha. See everyone on Friday.
