Don't think hammering anything into the sand will hold. Most here will recommend a turtle dog stand. I made one last summer with some scrub trees, see below. You might be able to get away with half a stand plus the ridge pole and your car. Depends on the vehicle I suppose.

Stand is simple to make. Just a couple of tripods and a ridge pole. You can find specifics if you search the forums.

This stand is very stable for beach use and breaks down to 5'3" sections. Note that in post 33 there is a better/simpler part to get from tarps.com.
I made one and it is great.

The Handy Hammock stand with beach/soft soil pegs works nicely.

At the beach I use a setup with 2 2x4's notched on the back side at 6.5' up and on the front side at 7' up.
4 stuff sacks filled with sand, knotted, then having the cord/webbing attached, and buried 1-1.5' down in the sand.
4 of those cinch buckles you can buy at home depot for $4/ea that have the webbing straps.

Put the 2x4's whatever distance apart you need and tie a line across at 6.5' up - the notch keeps the rope from slipping down.

bury the stuff sacks about 6' out from the 2x4's at about 10oclock and 2 oclock.
Cinch the setup until the lines are nice and taught and nothing moves.

I've used the setup in super high winds without an issue. Just make sure you knot the sacks and attach under the knot. DON'T try to use any straps that exist on the sacks already.
