Hitting the North Country Trail again this weekend! Trying out my DIY 'knotty' mod, I did foot side right and head side left in the field. Looking like a chance of rain in the forecast so perhaps I will be putting my Tadpole Hex tarp to the test. Hoping to do ten miles total 6 tomorrow 4 out on Sunday. Also going to try putting my reflectix pad in the hammock with me instead of between my PLUQ layers. I'll be sure to post some pics. What are your thoughts on lugging a tall boy of craft beer out with me?

Last weekend (4/15-4/16) I backpacked in with a friend to check out a tenting site on the AT/LT in Vermont (Griffith Lake) in preparation for my girl scouts backpack trip in June. Platform sites for ground dwellers like my friend (she borrowed my MSR Twing) and I got to hang comfortably above ground. Lovely weather, no wind, cool at night but warm during day. Too bad it was only one night. I am thinking I might sleep out in my backyard this weekend, the peepers are out and I love to hear the barred owls calling.

As long as you like it warm and foamy, it's probably worth a pound.

Most folks pitch the tarp over the hammock. But, whatever, hang your own.

Those platforms look nice for ground dwellers! Is that a bottle of wine I see?

That's always part of my kit for the first night out on any trip. Guinness draft or a craft beer like Keewanaw Brewing Co Black Widow or ROAK Brewing Red ale for us Michiganders. I love that NCT. Carry on.

This weekend was a semi-bust. We hiked 4.5 miles back in to Preston Falls, and the river was up so high that the hammock-friendly campsite I was after ended up being under water. Couldn't find another spot suitable for hanging up the hammock, so I had to go to ground this time around. Really can't complain about this view though.

Well the beer wasn't ice cold but my 'Willpower' from Right Brain Brewery was a great refreshment after camp got set up. I was very pleased with my knotty mods and stayed warm with the reflectix inside the hammock this time. Temps got down into the upper thirties and I had only trace amounts of condensation on the reflectix. Brought along my Ultimate Survival diamond tarp and set it up to help block the wind. Took me a while to get everything dialed in but I slept real well!
