Do you tend to sleep on your back or on your side? It really does sound like your hammock might be too short, but if you're a side sleeper I'd suggest a larger pillow.

When I backpack I put all my clothes in one bag and use it as a pillow. I have a mitten hook hold it to my ridgeline by using a small piece of shock cord.

IMO you shouldn't really need much of a real pillow in a hammock. It should be long enough to work for your body length so you can lay relatively flat at a diagonal. Then you just need something to roll up like a towel or jacket that only fits under your neck. Hammocks do not provide good neck support.

You just need a longer hammock. Even short people like myself are only comfortable in a hammock that is at least 9 feet long.

I've been sleeping in a hammock for 1 week and sleep great except for my neck.

Honestly, I didn't read the whole thread, but... I have always been pretty anti-pillow even in a normal bed. Recently though, I bought a hammock gear pillow and I love it. At home... in the hammock... wherever... I love it. Small enough to fit just under my neck but big enough to actually offer some support. And super soft and perfectly warm.

Oh and it was only $9.

Thnx for all the help guys. I've tried some different things and I sleep kinda with my head to the side with a small down pillows on the other side and it seems to be working. Hopefully I will be making a larger hammock soon.
