DIY tarps made easy - HEX12 templates now available

    "Oh ****. I messed up..."

    - Anonymous DIYer

    *************************************

If you've built your own tarp, you know that one of the more tedious steps can be laying out and cutting the fabric. Silnylon/Silpoly is slippery, then there's the cat-curves to worry about. Most importantly, once you start cutting, there's typically no going back :/.

Enter the HEX12 tarp template. In an effort to help you avoid the "Oops" moment, we've made a FULL-SIZE pattern for our HEX12 tarp. Instead of struggling with measurements and cat-curves, you simply choose your shape, cut out the template, and trace onto the fabric . Here's what it looks like:

The pattern comes complete with perfect, pre-drawn cat-curve lines allowing you to choose a depth of 2"-6" depending on preference or the type of material you're using. No strings, no spreadsheets.

I think these are an incredible value at $15 each. Aside from saving time and headache, you're less likely to make a costly mistake. That being said, if you want to get an even better value, we're offering to bundle the template with our HEX12 tarp kit for
    only $10 (33% discount).

Build great tarps. Have fun doing it. -> http://ripstopbytheroll.com/products...-tarp-template

That's a nice value, whether you think about creating your own template from a 1x6 or cardboard, or just the time involved in plotting the points directly to fabric for a one-off result.

This is a really fantastic idea. Love it.

What material is the pattern made of? Will there be 11' or 11.5' versions available at some point? How about for tarps with doors? Can the pattern come on olive yellow paper????????

It's a fairly stiff and sturdy paper, sort of like a lightweight cardstock, but still foldable. It definitely isn't newspaper. We will be adding other versions and other patterns very soon. The WINTER12 version should be ready in a couple days.

We draw and print these all in-house, so we control the process entirely. There's no end to the creativity and the only limit is imagination.

I'm all out of olive yellow paper, else I would happily oblige.

Here's a thought: Offer the fabric with the cut lines already drawn on.

Might as well do a 13 footer winter tarp while you're at it.
Longer hammock are en vogue and I've already had a request for a 13 footer.

Can't say I'm excited about sewing tarps but these templates will make life much easier. Appreciate your continued efforts on behalf of us DIYers.

An option for tarps using silnylon XL would be nice.
