Definitely feels better on my back. I will say I miss the set up time with the tent though. I just need to figure out how to set up my super fly faster and I'll be much happier.

Comfort ,comfort, comfort ...my backpack weight with my hammock gear is just a tad heavier that what I took tent camping (was able to split up the weight of the tent and tarp) but my nightly comfort more than makes up for the few extra ounces of weight.
Wilderness junkie.....
Shug: You hit the nail on the head with "restorative sleep". The first morning I woke up after sleeping in my hammy... it was surreal. I felt like I could breathe deeper, stand taller, and whine less about my back throughout the day. I was amazed, and due to your inspiration and instruction, I jumped in the deep end and got rid of my mattress.
And same view with tent door open....
Bump..Set..Match.
Comfort is the biggest factor. Where I go backcountry tripping finding two suitable trees is not a problem. Waiting out a storm in a hammock set up is also much nicer than a tent.
Don't let life get in the way of living.
Well ... my hammock setup is quite a bit heavier than my lightest tarp setup and a little heavier than my lightest tent setup, but as others have said the hammock it very comfortable. I still go to ground when pack weight is of the utmost importance to me, but like the comfort of the hammock and hanging opens up some sites that are just not possible in a tent. Both approaches have merit. I say use what makes you smile and hammocking is all about joy!
Same as all above responses, plus the ability to change the tarp setup to suit the weather and gain the views, adjust for wind, etc as needed. I love waking up and looking around ( especially if I hear an animal.). In a tent, you just look for shadows...coming closer and getting bigger with no escape!

Another vote for the best sleep I have ever had outside.
I think hammocks give you wider latitude in finding spots to sleep, especially slopes and other uncomfortable or impossible tent sites.
And finally, I just like the fiddle factor. It's a double edged sword, but playing around with or creating new options with the gear is very appealing with hammock camping.
I'm still looking for 2 perfect trees.
"...the height of hammock snobbery!"
Great nights sleep and not having to crawl in and out of tent.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
