    Extra width

What are the advantages to going wider than 60" on a hammock?
How does this affect your UQ width, do you order a wider UQ?
I am 6' 200# , and am having trouble getting comfortable in a 10' hammock. Granted, I am knew to all of this, and will keep working with the 10' to see if I can get it right, so just exploring options for now.Would an 11' standard width of 60" work, or should I look at going wider, say 66-72"?
And if I do decide to go wider, is it necessary to go wider with the UQ as well?

The comfort vs. width is somewhat subjective. I'm a little taller than you and I like my 11'X 5' hammock just fine. I have a 12' X 6' that I don't like as well. I think for your height you would probably be happy with a 11' X 5' but that's your call.

I'm 5'11" and have never seen the point in going beyond 60 inches width. I have a variety of hammocks between 58 and 60 inches and they're all equally comfortable. However, I have a BIAS Hiker Lite that is only 55 inches wide and I don't find it very comfortable - my feet pop out.

I've got some ROBIC 1.0 XL and will make a hammock in the 62" range. I don't expect to notice much difference (other than it will weigh more).

    Trueblue,

I am 6' 2" and 230lbs... my WBBB xlc is 11' x 60" wide, there is plently of width for me to sleep on the diagonal with fabric to spare. Can't imagine needing more than that. I would think extra fabric beyond 60" would be an annoyance actually...

I find my 60" hammocks to be comfortable...longer seems to add even more comfort. I think the material (stretch) comes into play as well.

I have a 10.5' x 65" hammock coming soon, so I'm curious to see if those few extra inches make a difference.

I think the best thing about my DIY XL hammock is that my sleeping bag doesn't try to creep out over the edge and go to ground while I'm still in the hammock! I always had trouble with that in my 57" or whatever it is. That extra width sure helps that problem. I am just as comfortable in either otherwise. They are both 11 footers, though. I can't speak on shorter lengths.

I've got a Dutchware Hexon W 1.6 and love it, but I'm looking at his site wanting a double layer for a 2 color option and wondering if I really need that extra fabric for an additional $30. Anyone with a Double-Dutch 11'x72" care to chime in? I don't feel like buying a hammock and being upset that I bought the wrong thing. Dimensionally, I like the Wide hexon, just not sure how well it works as a double layer.

If you're afraid it will be too stiff, wait for Dutch to release W 1.0 in the not too distant future, then go for a double layer.

Hrmm... Well, the single layer 1.6W is fantastic so far not worried so much about stiffness, as I am about extra fabric bunching and such, even with knottys. I hear Hex 1.0 is super soft and comfy though. If he's releasing 1.0W soon enough, I may just wait. Optimally, I want a hammock with a red interior and black exterior. This is only do-able if I order Poppy Red Hex 2.4 inside and Hex1.6 Black on the outside. Not sure how a weaker/lighter outside fabric would effect the stronger inner fabric. I'd also be cool with a burnt orange interior and gray exterior if the gray is opaque enough, both Hex1.6W. I returned my ENO Junglenest to REI and the wife Green-lighted a second dutchware. I'm thinking this next one will be predominantly setup in my room and left once it's set up right. I don't really need the added strength, I'm only 5'11"/200lbs, but If I'm laying in it every night, eventually the fabric will probably give a bit.
