+1 on the Wonder Clips. One of the best DIY helpers I have bought. If you put them on so the edge is all the way into the clip, it gives you a half inch measurement. No pin holes to worry about, either. I've used them on all my projects so far. Planning on using them on my tarp, which is what I am sewing next. Panels all cut out and ready to go.

Proper pinning will have little to no effect on the waterproof ness. You only pin the first pass, after that every thing is stable and won't slip around. Any holes you make will be folded into the seam and multple layers of fabric seal them off. Of course you'll be seam sealing the seam because of the through stitching which is unavoidable so don't fret it. I don't like the clips... they are too bulky and snag on the table and such. But that's a personal opinion. Nothing wrong with them. To me pins are easier and faster and sleeker.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I have used the rotary even foot since I started working with silnylon and it works like a dream! Much better than my walking foot... Here's a link to some videos VIDEO! Rolled hems, grosgrain binding... Rotary Even Foot!
