Was looking to get a winter tarp, with doors, that would pitch right down to the ground (when necessary), to cover a 11' hammock.
I reckoned I would be able to get it out of 8 yards of RipStopByTheRoll's Membrane Silpoly.
And, if I used a cutting plan like this,
I could get maximum doorage with zero waste.
Joined like this,
to make this,
Thought it would be a good plan (whilst waiting for my package from Kyle) to make a prototype in Polycryo,
Reckon I made me a useful tarp there too! (and light),
The Membrane Silpoly version was going to be a bit heavier, but I was gunning for sub 400 grammes,
Used RipStopByTheRoll's excellent Winter Tarp instructions,
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/02...29523060114529
and made my very first flat-felled seam (ridgeline),
The SilPoly was very slick, pinning (a lot) made things considerably easier).
Still squeaking in under 400 grammes, before seam sealing and glueing the panel pulls on,
The panel pulls were sewn to Ripstop nylon circles which I then glued to the outside with SilNet.
Some weighty reading matter holding the circles in place,
Detail of ridgeline tie-out, note the shonky sewing,
Hems were done with the rolled hem foot on the new (to me) Pfaff machine, which was exciting!
Final weight is 402 grammes, blew the target by two! I blame the over-enthusiastic seam sealing and overly large reinforcement on the panel pulls,
(14.18oz)
Of course, the weight will climb when I add guylines and snakeskins anyway.
And here it is pitched to the deck (storm mode),
doors folded flat on this end,
and a lil' more pointed on this end,
And the view from the master bedroom,
Here are the final dimensions, thanks to Kyle's generous 8 yards, I was able to go a little longer, and give it slightly larger doors,
I made it with the longer doors nearest my head and feet (right-hand lay), therefore more coverage in those areas when in porch mode.
The only wastage was a half inch tapered sliver, I took off to square things up.
Just need to have some rain to test it, and wash the talc off!
