    ROBIC vs. Hexon (1.0 oz)

    Hello all,

I'm entertaining the idea of whipping up a new hammock, but am curious about these fancy new fabrics that have come out.

I'm having a tough time getting a bead on what each of the fabrics would excel at. Is there anyone with experience with both that could enlighten me? Is one stretchier? Stronger? Better hand feel? One good for hammocks, whereas the other excels as something like stuff sacks?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

My quick thoughts...Hexon definitely has a better hand feel but is a little more stretchy. Robic is firmer and seems stronger.

As to which is better, it's going to be personal preference.

Right now hexon 1.0 is only in a smaller width, though Dutch has said he'll release a wider version sometime. Robic currently comes in an XL width.

There is a user here named "tacblades" ( I think) that just finished making a robic hammock. It looks great and he has a YouTube channel with a couple videos about it.

I personally just got a 11ft hexon 1.0 from Dutch and I'm really happy with it. It's sooo lite. I'm about 5'10" 215lbs and it feels great, pretty on par with my old Dutch argon but lighter.

My new rig is a Robic. I've spent two weekends in it now and have been very happy with it. I like the extra width for the diagonal lay. The 10.5' x ~70" hammock plus 5' huggers, whoopies/hooks, and Robic stuff sack weigh in at 13.5oz. It feels great and sleeps great. I have not used the 1.0 hexon - so I won't compare.
