Yes! I don't give a crap about the 83% rule. I tried to follow it and it drove me crazy. Now, I have an adjustable ridgeline on my hammock. I loosen the ridgeline all the way, set up the hammock, test to make sure it's comfortable, than adjust the ridgeline until it is just tight. I don't know what the length is and, frankly, don't care. This system works for me.

Is a longer ridgeline supposed to give you more or less knee pressure? I can't tell any difference in 113 and 107, left it set at 107 to give better tarp coverage.

By making the RL longer the hammock/the lay will be flatter but the hammock will also be more narrow and the diagonal angle will decrease. Nobody can tell if it will help you or not you have to try it. There are so many personal factors in play like how you are build, how long your legs are etc.
By lowering the head end chances are the knee pressure will decrease no matter how long the RL are.

I use an adjustable RL. One with using a taut line hitch. I'll setup the hang and test it for comfort and adjust till I like it. I used to do a fixed 83% but I felt it wasn't getting the job done for me.

I color outside the lines. Always have. Right now, I'm hanging at around 45 degrees with a ridiculously short rll. G'night, all. Zzzzzz.

My rl isn't 83% either I use an adjustable rl and started @ 83% but went up from there to where it felt comfortable. You need to do what works for you.

I took the ridgeline completely off my traveler hammock last night. I don't feel there is a purpose after using hammocks without them and I sleep more comfortably.

i splice my SRL with about a 1/4" or so loop on each end at 83%, throw one end inside the Lark's Head of the Continuous Loop, and then just slip the other end over the CL that i lay on a MSH so that i can just hop up and de-loop the MSH and stuff the SRL into the stuffsack. i leave the stuffsack on the 'locked' end, and just re-loop the MSH and walk it over. laying out is nice sometimes, for sure. I'm usually lounging 90 to the SRL and i just leave it. unless i wanna grub in hammock, then i drop the SRL and foldy my hammock in half and sit with the edges under my butt kinda. good for carving stakes too.....cuz i lost mine /: lol
