Half Cat Cut doors???? make a difference

So I am finally starting my SilNylon tarp and am basing the design off of BWDD's winter tarp. I put a cat cut on the 6' middle section and did a half cat cut on the doors. No cat cut on side of doors, just the bottom. Will this even do anything to help with the tension on the doors, or should I cut it off straight and make my life a little easier when sewing? Here is a pic of what it looks like cut. Thoughts? Length so far is 12'...

IMO cat cuts on the doors wont do anything. Cut cuts will create tension on the big surfaces on a tarp (on stretchy materials like Silnylon) and to some degree reduce folds and sag when the material gets wet. To benefit from the cat cuts you need a fair force on the guylines and you wont be able to give the doors the same tension so ......
The same applies for the bottom of the doors but some like the look.

BTW i am not sure why you want a 12' length tarp. In this thread you can get some hints about the length if you haven't made all the cuts. Long tarps is not better it depends on the hammock and how you want to hang.

Thanks snowball. I made an 11 1/2 ft hammock so figured inwould need a larger tarp. Oh well. I actually wound up cutting off the doors anyway to make a hex. Ill make add on doors instead. Thanks for the input. image.jpg

Guess i will have to make another after this... 👍

That's the length of your hammock body, but not the length of your ridgeline, which is the true length of your hanging hammock

Understood. I might just increase the angle from the ridgeline to the bottoms of the tarp and shave off 4-5" from each side of the ridgeline It should help keep it around 11'.
    Thanks for your input.
