Have you tried this? What keeps the two sections of the stand from sliding toward the center?
EDIT: Oh, I see your stakes. But, of course, that's not possible in a hotel room. At least, not without incurring a BIG surcharge on your bill!
And to the Original Poster: See the Turtle Lady stand original thread HERE Your situation is EXACTLY why the Turtle Lady designed her stand. She uses light weight poles and carries them in to hotels in a ski bag or golf bag. Good luck!

Surely, God could have made a better way to sleep.
Surely, God never did.
Velcro strips work great on rugs where stakes cannot be used.
The two tripods and a top pole is a great design, strong and simple.
My goal is to design a lighter-about 25 lb, smaller-40"X 5" x 5" when folded, stand. A stand for indoor or outdoor, have added back-stays, and a three pipe welded hub to increase strength, and allow the possible use of smaller poles. Will be testing it over the next few weeks.

how about using tripods made from sectional, or extension poles like these from Ace and others on the web

reuse, from another set, center pole to make a longer pole. Can also find dowel threaders, or metal threads and sockets at wood working shops to make your own sectional poles
Maybe this is, at least partially, a solution?

I keep learning and will never know enough.
Folks,
This is Hammock Forums, not boat forums, or couch forums, or ground dwelling forums. Please focus your responses on a traveling hammock solution or this thread will get moved to the off topic discussion area of the Donating Members area which will do the OP no good as they are not a DM.
Thank you for your assistance.

I have two portable hammock stands. I'm 5' and carrying the Drifter is difficult.
The Boats-To-Go one is very lightweight. Doable for air travel but a golf bag or something similar would help it travel better. Check-in dimensions are 62" so u need to keep the pack thin.
Downsides are that u need a short (non-stretchy) hammock because the ends flex and you end up pretty low to the ground, making getting out a bit challenging. I've found that my 8' DD Hammock works best. I'll probably order an 8-footer from Dutch in PolyD. He made an 8.5' and it works but I'm still pretty low down. I thought of trying to shorten it by 6" but I know I'll never get around to it.
I paid ab $99. There are 2 on Amazon now that, with $19 shipping, come to ab $90. Do a search
for their promo video with the model.
Better yet, search this forum for the thread on this stand.
