Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Skyline Ridge to Waddell Beach..?

We're planning a trip to Big Basin Redwoods State Park (Santa Cruz) doing the "Skyline-To-The-Sea" trail.

    http://www.redwoodhikes.com/BigBasin/S-to-S.html

I haven't read anything about bears. More specifically, are we required to have a hard-sided, bear-proof container?

I always hang my food, but in Utah we're not required, nor is it necessary to have a canister.

    Any insight?

    Thanks!

I live in Santa Clara and Have done this trail and you shouldn't have to worry about bears. It's almost entirely downhill if you start on Highway9/Skyline side and a lot of people have done this as a day trip. Let me know if you need help with logistics.

So, are there any rules about hammocks there, or anything strict I should know about? Do we have to camp in designated camp sites or can we stealth anywhere? I'm never sure when I travel outside of Utah. I'd hate to get there and find out that you're not allowed to even go near trees and such. Thanks!

There are rules and there are rules . There's really no ranger patrolling this area so if you're using a hammock, just go off trail a little bit and you're set. Plenty of trees for hammocks .

Anyone know the current fire restrictions? I heard we're at 95% normal snowpack, not quite the epic El Nino many had hoped for, but better than recent years.
