I have used KAMsnaps to make a foot box in a TQ. I bought a kit from Amazon for less then $25 and have been very happy with holding strength. The kit came with everything I needed and 8 colors. I was able to match my fabric colors. I was concerned with using plastic for snaps, but they are holding up well. I've been using them for things around the house now.
I did not seam rip the UQ because I started working on it before I read anything about seam ripping. I did seam rip the TQ I made. I have no regrets using kamsnaps I chose. So far they are holding up fine. You will probably need to experiment with how many snaps to use to securely attach the two layers. Good luck with your project!
