Thanks for all the advice. This site is awesome !!
It was a 10 day Boundary Waters trip that sent me to the trees. Trying to keep from sliding out of the tent on those uncomfortable slabs of slanted boulders was the sign I needed that hammocks weren't just for backyard naps and quiet reading.
Learned so much here, from some of the most generous folks on the interwebs. I'll slog miles through mud, carrying everything I need on my back, just to be able to sleep in a hammock in the woods, now. I still have just a ENO single, though I've modified the suspension, and I love my WL Tadpole tarp. It's such a good night's sleep, I hate getting up in the morn.

I would start by getting a copy of the ultimate hang and watching every video you can (especially Shug's).
Next, make a list of your priorities and put them in order. What's most and least important? Cost, weight, comfort, ease of use, etc.
At this point you should have some very specific questions remaining. Write them down.
Go back and re-read the ultimate hang and re-watch those videos. Now you'll have a few more questions. Add them to the list.
Sleep on it. (Preferably in a hammock)
Search online (especially the forums here) and if you still have questions, just ask your fellow forum members.
Hang the good hang.
Welcome to the dark side.
Thanks again girls and boys ! Got the book in the mail Saturday and am enjoying it and learning from it ! also watching lots of video's and doing lots of searches. Sooo many choices out there to pick from......lol
I don't know how far you are from the I&M canal, get out there for a hang if you can. Those guys are a wealth of knowledge and very helpful.
A simple gathered end is a great place to start, the cheaper the better. Save the big names, and money, for when you've gained some experience...... if even then.
Watched a lot of youtube videos, visit a lot of websites, got to a local hang and then buy a full set up, then question if it was the right choice and then buy some more stuff... eventually you will have enough to know if you made the right choice the first time or not. Just make sure to get good suspension.
