Question S2S Thermolite Reactor Compact Plus Liner... User ratings?

    Warm weather top insulation..

I have a 20 degree bag for cold weather. Looking for summer top insulation in tandem with CCF under. The Sea-to-Summit Reactor line offer light weight and more importantly pack down small. I'm a warm sleeper and just want to squelch the potential for warm weather chill.. 70-ish and warmer.

Not a cheap solution, but a win on all other counts and I have an REI gift cert + this years dividend to even the playing field on cost.

Solid ratings from what I can see on S2S and REI websites, but I'd like some firsthand reports from fellow tree-dwellers..

What's your experience with the Reactor Compact Plus liner as a stand-alone... ??
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I've been on the lookout for warm weather top insulation as well. I currently use a Costco throw made in to a TQ and it works great. I've only had it between ~56F-68F and am confident it would be good from 45-75.

I've tried a cheap fleece and I got chilled in bed at home at about 65.

I've used a snugpack jungle blanket, but it was too hot around 70ish.

My next try will be this Coleman fleece and having my thermals as back up. There's a local store that carries them, so I can return if I need to.

I think it's going to be hard to beat the Costco throw though. But, I like to experiment with stuff and I wanted to be part of this discussion..lol.

I have a S2S reactor liner. Can't remember which one. I think it's the one that claims to add 15 f to a sleeping bag. I like it as a sleeping bag liner. My son uses his as his top insulation in the hammock in the summer. I use the Jacksrbetter summer quilt. To me, it's easier to get in and out of in the hammock.

Thanks all.. I am still pondering my options.

What killed the deal with the Reactor Compact Plus, is that its a true mummy, and has no split in it. And with my bad shoulders, it would be a real PITA to get in and out. I'm looking for something I can more easily access and that isn't an asymmetrical shape like a mummy.

One alternative is a generic $12 fleece from Dicks Sporting Goods. Likely similar to the Coleman option above. Upside is, well, $12. Downside is that it's heavy, as expected and doesn't pack down too small. But for $12 I can add a compression bag and be out under the cost of any of the S2S choices. I can't go wrong.. if it sucks, I can just leave it in bug-out kit in the Jeep.

There are other options in the S2S line that I am considering. The S2S Toaster MicroFleece is a good option at $39. I am going to visit REI today to check it out. Packs small, has a zippered opening so I can convert to over-quilt configuration.. comes in at 20oz.

I have REI, EMS and Dicks all within walking distance of each other.. Murder on my wallet. Come to think of it, there is a Costco nearby as well. I have a basic thread injector. Maybe I should consider a Costco throw.
