    Question about Dutch Clips

I'm sure this has been asked before, but here goes.

What is the advantage of using a Dutch Clip on your webbing as opposed to running the suspension end of your webbing through the loop at the end?

Is it a convenience/time saving addition or is there more to it I'm not getting?

    Thanks!

Convenience, but depending on the situation it can be a significant convenience. If after initial setup you realize you need to move your tree strap up and there is a branch in the way, rethreading through the loop can be a pain. A dutch clip allows you to easily unhook and rehook right above the branch without detaching your hammock.

If you are using cinch buckles you can avoid unthreading those between hangs as well since you do not have to undo them to remove the strap from the tree.

I use the dutch clip attached to the webbing. It, as the previous post states, makes life easier to adjust the position on the tree. I use whoopee slings and the marlin spike method, so I have almost infinite adjustment abilities. My last thought, I am a big dude and they are ROCK SOLID. They are almost nothing in terms of weight and pack size.

You cannot go wrong with their equipment.

It's convenience. Personally, I think it's worth it.

Its for convenience, ease of use, and weight savings over a 'biner (which is also for convenience and ease of use at a weight penalty). My 9 year old uses Dutchclips and cinch buckles herself provided she can reach however high they need to go with no problems. I personally do not use them on my whoopie hook suspension, but have definitely been in situations where I know they would have saved me a few hassles.

As everyone else said, convenience. I use a biner for the same purpose. It really does make it easier to raise or lower your straps even if there's no branch to get around, but especially if there's a branch to get around.

I like my TI Dutch clips. I put a few thread stitches in them to keep them attached. I've watched people thread the loop, in the pouring rain. Takes some time, versus just reach around tree, clip, pull tight and do the other side while the person threading the loop is still on the first side.

In the old days, 2010, we had to wrap around the tree, pull it through a loop, weave through two rings and do a back up hitch. And once you got it set up right, the darn trees would move. It was horrible!!!!

I use them with my cinch buckle just because it is a pain in the butt to undo the webbing from the buckle every time you want to remove it from the tree. I could use a caribeaner but having Dutch clips are lighter and people always ask me what those cool things are and it makes a good talking point. I usually just leave them on there though. When I'm using my whoopie slings its not too much of a pain to run them through the loops so I just do that really fast usually.
