i started with a yukon hammock with built in bug net...that i picked up through woot for super cheap. Just recently ordered a wbb xlc and its super comfy.

Completely agree with the above posts about going to a hang and checking out different ones out before dumping some change on a pricey rig.

My 10yr old and I both have XLC's, but still have our ENO Dryfly tarps. We get a little damp if the wind blows, but more time will need to pass for us to be able to purchase two more tarps. The ENO tarp works fine, however.

this is a pic of my son and I at BSA summercamp 2014. our first year getting into hammocks. we used $25 walmart hammock, blue tarps from Walmart, and ENO atlas straps. and stayed totally dry during a huge thunderstorm in middle of night when all others in our troop got flooded in the tents.

The 2nd thing you will need is a rain fly.

The 3rd thing you will need is an under-quilt.

The 4th thing you will need is a foot-boxed over-quilt.

After that you're just about done.
