Kevlar tree huggers 2.2 vs 3.3 price

just curious why the 3.3 kevlar is so much cheaper than the 2.2 ($13 vs $27 for 5' straps). The 3.3 weighs a little bit more and has a bit higher breaking strength...so why is it cheaper?

Is 2.2 what most people are going with these days? I guess I'm not seeing the benefits of going with the more expensive 2.2 option

2.2 has a tighter weave (less snagging) , and is probably specially woven to be lighter.. hence higher cost. perhaps similar to ti vs alum... just a shot in the dark I don't know for sure. Just a matter of cost vs. weight for most people into UL.

It's all about saving grams. Unless you're to the SUL point it's probably not worth it. Think sil vs cuben fiber.

anything else other than the 1/2 ounce I would save? Intimidator mentions less snagging with the 2.2....that seems like more of an actual benefit than 1/2 ounce

A slightly less volume size also. It's a lot of $ for a little gain, but it's still a gain.

Dutch said it was more expensive for him, so it's obviously more expensive for us. For some (myself included) the weight/bulk savings and less snagging will be worth it and to some it won't. FWIW I have both and much prefer the 2.2 even without taking the weight difference into account. They do crease quite easily though so either take your portable iron, fold them flat when packing or be prepared to spend a few mins pulling them taught to get the worst of the creases out each night.

It is all about the cost of the material as far as the price. However since I have introduced the 2.2, I would say 90% of the Kevlar sales are for the 2.2 but what's now is always hot. I also guess if you are paying for the Kevlar, why get the second best. In reality with a pair of 15 foot straps you are only saving a little over an ounce for the 2.2. As others have said the tighter weave of the 2.2 is really nice. It is really grosgrain and packs down to something you can cup in your hand. I personally use either. I'm not going to notice an ounce anyhow. YMMV
    Peace Dutch

One advantage of the Kevlar that I have noticed for those of us who use a marlin spike hitch with carabiners instead of toggles is that the carabiners come out easier from the Kevlar than the regular strap material.
