About 1 AM I heard an animal by my hammock and heard something swatting my backpack which I had hanging from a tree. I did not have any open food in the pack so I was not worried. That morning when we got up Pappy said it was a raccoon and it bumped his hammock.

Pappy must have a good ticker. I had something bump my hammock last fall and scared me a great deal. Previously I've only hung my food away from my camp but now am keeping my backpack away too.

PappyAmos and I had plans to hike parts of the Uwharrie and Dutchman's Creek Trails and camp out on the trail and hike back to Yates Place on Friday to rejoin the hang in progress. So we loaded up our packs and took off about 1:45. We did about 4.5 miles and got to the campsite PappyAmos said we were stopping at. Nice secluded site off the trail next to a stream surrounded by brush and hills.

Any more hints on where you guys stayed? I am going out this weekend and that spot sounds pretty awesome.

Sure! The southern UT and the DCT form a figure 8. Often used as a loop starting at hwy 24/27. From wherever you come in, hike to where the trails cross in the middle of the "8" then take the DCT NW from there about a mile and a half. Campsite at the bottom of a descent on your right.

Just a short hike to the rock pile you have to hike up. It was a nice camp site. Place for about 3 hammocks plus lots of other places to hang just a few hundred feet away. It is next to a creek so water is close. Bring your filter

The Dutchman Creek trail ( the blue section ) had a lot more steep hills ( up and down )
