    Talking Newbie from Texas

    Howdy from Aggieland!

My first hang was last weekend about 5 miles down the Lone Star Trail. I got a little chilly during the night (55* at 3am) so I'll be investing in a good UQ soon for sure. Good thing this forum is so helpful with things like that. I'm new to backpacking too, so my wallet is really unhappy right now (why I tried going without a quilt in the first place). I'm currently hanging in an ENO double nest with some straps/buckles from Dutchware and let me say I will never tent camp again if I can help it. Honestly, if I could get away with it, I'd consider hanging full time!

Anyways, thanks to everyone on this forum, y'all have been so helpful with all of my purchasing decisions. Special thanks to Shug for being especially awesome and spunky; your videos have been incredibly helpful. I'm super excited to be a part of this community and ready to get out there and hang some more!

Here's my setup from the hike:

P.S. Any other Ags out there hang?

Its great to see another hanger from Texas! Nice to have you here. A good way to save a little bit on gear is to check your local craigslist ads and second hand stores, ive found some great things that way. How was the trail? Id love to be able to do the whole trail one day. Again nice to have you here!

Welcome from the Piney Woods! I totally get how the double whammy of gearing up for backpacking and hammocking does a number on the wallet. Camping hammocking seems to be really taking off, rightfully so.

Howdy, and welcome from someone who grew up in Aggieland. I was hanging at Huntsville SP Friday night and it got a bit chilly with the wind. My DIY PLUQ was tested and kept me fine until around 5am.
