LuvmyBonnet you would do yourself a favour to google a map of the area up the west side of the park. Access point number 4. It looks like up thru Kearneyand across Rain Lake road. Now my question is do we register at Kearney or is there a park office at this access point? I seem to remember registering in Kearney for my Tim River trip but there's no campground up there. Also do we register and pay and just tell them we are with the group? Seems there's enough sites reserved

Parks site says the permit pick up is at Kearney. I'm pretty sure you need to register there as well. Anyone know how it works if your not with the permit holder? Also did you guys max out your party size? I put 5, should I have done 9? Or does it matter?

Looking forward to seeing some old faces and new as well and some nice temperatures.
The access is at the black 4. I believe the island site people talk about is #8.

As for the fish, I believe they are just saying that two species of fish are found in the lake, I'd have to look at Jeff's map for the legend of which species.

The number you reserve with is irrelevant. You can change when you register (at Kearney).

What we've done in the past is meet up at the park office or somewhere before and registered together or sent the permit information to anyone coming up at a different time. Usually there isn't a problem adding your name to a permit and paying for yourself and your car. We can always sort out if anyone owes for the permits when there.

Hi ken. Hows it hangin? lol Sorry couldnt help myself.
Hopefully luvmybonnet and myself will be there thursday to grab a site.
If available im thinking east end of the island or the 2nd site west of the portage to sawyer lake.
After that i guess any site is fair game. Thoughts ? and/or know any good sites on the south shore?

I've read a couple reviews that said the west side island site is nice as well as the site close to the Sawyer lake portage. Being hammock friendly for a large group is another matter though.

I've never camped on rain and all the reviews I've seen are from people who (egad!) sleep on the ground. From them I've heard good things about the west end of the island (said to have a great view) and the site 2 from the Sawyer portage (the small lake to the north is supposedly easily accessed). I think I read something about the furthest east site on the south shore being okay as well.

But as Bubba said, who knows how hammock friendly they are. Hopefully you will have something bright and obvious to hang by wherever you select.

Lol! I don't even want to talk about the number of canoe trip youtube videos I've watched.

Hahaha! Me too. I've been watching anything canoeing and Algonquin or hamocking in general good or bad. I'm now at the point I'm watching them for a second and third time.
